What Keeps You From Being Successful?
There are many people who work very hard all their lives and get very little worthwhile reward while others seem to attract success at whatever they do.
It is frustrating but there can be good reason in that the more successful individual has more than likely set up plans, he knows where he wants to be and knows what he needs to achieve it,
Entrepreneurs... business people and those willing to break boundaries and become successful in what they do have to deal with many obstacles.
There are challenges that must be faced and dealt with and not least of all dealing with negativity and rejection is part of being successful and innovative.
Developing the right mindset can be the key to driving you forward in your own personal journey to success.
Nelson Mandela once said " There can be no passion in playing small- in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living"
So what is holding you Back?
Have you ever thought that maybe the biggest hurdle to success could be You?
If you are guilty of negative thinking, try instead focusing on the positive aspects.
Positive thinking is a powerful tool to and it will help you overcome the many challenges and obstacles that life sometimes throws at us.
When you constantly berate yourself and focus on your flaws and failures you are creating an internal mindset that will prolong negativity and minimize the positive aspects of the situations that you encounter in your daily life.
Of course it is normal for everyone to experience some kind of self doubt but it can get out of control. If you are to become more successful in business you will need to create self confidence in yourself and the skills and products that you have to offer.
To be successful requires your time, hard work and the right business plan but it also needs you to have the right mindset...
Do you have a mindset that is fixed in believing that only others can find success in life?
We all dream of success, the elusive part is getting from dreaming about what you want to having it and enjoying it.
You can without doubt alter the way you think, your mindset can change...

Your True M.O.T.I.V.E. - 6 Ways To Tell Whether Your Goal Is Really Realistic
When we want to achieve a specific objective in life, whether it's to start a business, become a certain sort of person, improve our health, increase our confidence, one of the ways we can do this is to look at setting a goal.
Often, however, the goals we set ourselves aren't achieved. And there could be numerous factors that contribute to this, one of which could be that your goal wasn't realistic given who and where you are in your life right now.
We need to set bigger and bigger goals if we're to succeed in life and create the life we want. However, we also need to look at how we're going to get from here to there. If our goal is beyond what we see as being realistic, we risk dismissing it before we've event started to work towards it.
A popular model for goal establishment and achievement is the SMART approach. The 'R' of the SMART model stands for 'Realistic'. The others, as you may well know, stand for specific, measurable, achievable and time delimited.
But how do we know whether a goal is realistic or not? Perhaps we need to have a look at our true M.O.T.I.V.E. for achieving a particular goal, and see how realistic that goal really is. Five useful areas to question may well be the following:
1. M: How much Motivation do I have to achieve this goal to the standard I want to reach? And do I have the right motivation to complete it? If not, what do I need to do to increase my level of motivation to achieve the goal? Or how can I introduce more stepping stones on the ways to the goal so it's more achievable with the motivation I do have?
If your goal is to set up or grow a business and you find your motivation is low, what is it about that business model that's deterring you? Is it the right business for you? Have you done your research? Is the business viable? Is the business in alignment with who you are as a person? All these questions can begin to shed light on how to raise your motivation levels so that you can begin to move towards your goal.
2. O: Is what I want to achieve solely up to me or do I have to take Other people into consideration? If I'm taking someone else into consideration, how can we work on this goal together to ensure that both our needs are met? Is there compromise on either side? If so is one of us foregoing our own needs in favour of those of the other person? If this is the case, how can we work together to redress this balance?
In the case of a business, do you need a business partner, a consultant or an assistant in your business? Do you need to draft in the expertise of a business mentor or coach? Or do you simply need to sit down with a friend to hear a second opinion on what you're about to do? If others need to be involved how can you work together so that it's a win, win for both of you? These and other questions you may come up with will begin to help you understand how others may be able to help you reach your outcome.
3. T: How much Time do I have to achieve this goal to the standard I wish to reach? And do I have the right amount of time to complete it? If not, how can I extend the timeframe to achieve the goal? Or how can I change the goal so that it is more achievable in the time I do have?
Time is one of the keys to a successful venture. Your timeframe can be the difference between succeeding in reaching your goal and coming up short. If your timeframe is too short your brain will simply dismiss the goal because the belief that you can't reach your outcome in that space of time will sabotage your attempts to achieve that outcome.
Practise setting timeframes by timing every activity you undertake no matter how small. In this way you'll begin to get an understanding of how you work, and what kind of timeframes are practical and realistic for you. When you get into the habit of setting small timeframes for everyday tasks it becomes easier to set timeframes for your bigger goals.
4. I: What's my real level of Interest in this goal? And do I have the right amount of interest to see it to completion? If not, what can I do to make the goal more interesting, exciting and fun so that I have more Inspiration to achieve it?
Your level of interest is a vital barometer that will help you gauge whether your goal is the right one for you. You won't always necessarily be inspired and interested in the daily actions necessary to achieve your goal (the research, the planning, the administration, the reviewing, the tweaking, the changing... ) but your ultimate goal should at least interest you and ideally inspire you. If it doesn't it's time to look at why this is and whether this is really the right goal for you.
5. V: Is what I want to achieve a goal in its own right or is it part of a wider Vision? If so what's the vision and what's the goal... what is the difference between the two? If it is a vision, are there more goals I need to achieve alongside this one to reach the vision?
It's important to be able to rise up and look at the ultimate vision of where you want to go on a regular basis. Having this higher stance not only helps to put into perspective the individual goals you're working on, but also re-ignites your motivation, interest and inspiration to realize the vision.
6. E: How much Energy do I have to achieve this goal to the standard I wish to reach? And do I have the right amount of energy to complete it? If not, what do I need to do to increase my energy level to achieve the goal? Or how can I change the goal so that it is more achievable with the energy I do have?
Your energy levels will be an important determining factor in how well you achieve your goal. A simple way to establish how much energy you do have is to score your energy levels throughout the day. How energized are you in the mornings, the afternoons and the evenings?
Another useful measuring tool is to become aware of how you feel when you think of your goal. Are you energized when you think about it, or does your energy drop? If it drops look at the points above and consider what needs to be changed in terms of your goal to increase your energy.
These simple questions and sub-questions will begin to help you look at your goal from a more grounded perspective. They'll also assist you to make a better decision as to exactly what you wish to achieve... and whether what you wish to achieve is really realistic.

How to Reprogram Your Mind Using Affirmations
Positive affirmations can be incredibly powerful. They can help us overcome difficulties. They can reduce stress. They can even make you money.
However, it's not always easy to make them part of your routine. In fact, it's pretty hard work to bring a positive affirmation into your life and use it effectively.
There are some 'cheats' that will help to make the task a lot easier.
- Write the affirmations down. This is quite possibly one of the most useful tips I've ever seen. Plenty of self-help leaders are huge advocates of writing stuff down. But the impact of doing this, along with a ritual that gets you to do it every day, makes for an explosive combination. Write your affirmations down every day, and you'll soon see incredible results.
- Repeat them at least three times a day. This will keep feeding your mind with positivity and strength.
- Always carry out your affirmations somewhere quiet, where you won't be disturbed. It allows your mind to more receptive and your affirmation to be more effective.
- You can't fake belief, but you certainly can use your body to help you believe. If you are able to, try and state your affirmations with absolute conviction.
Why you are doing this?
If you've ever 'tried' affirmations before, you'll know how challenging it is to continue after three days. By that third day, you're starting to get tired and you may even forget to use an affirmation.
Then you realise, you aren't clear on the purpose of affirmations. Saying these phrases and sentences is absolutely meaningless and futile if you don't understand the logic behind affirmations.
Essentially, you are feeding your mind with scenarios that will please you if they become part of your life. And just like a computer hard drive clogged up with files, you've got to start filling your mind with positive stuff.
The more you do this the better. And it takes time, but you will find it becomes easier the more time you invest in it.
Using a goal-tracker app, or even just a pen and a pad, will allow you to monitor your use of affirmations. After a week, you'll go back over your log and see how far you've come.
It's okay to cheat
If you find shortcuts and tricks like those outlined in this article, you should use them.
Using them brings you a feeling of control. You feel you have the ability to change your life.
And that's worth the effort.

How To Use Your Time To Create The Life You Want
How you use your time is just one of the variables to success. I'm not talking about the passage of time because time just is. It's what you do with the time that you have that matters. One of the secrets to success is knowing how much time to spend on the right things at the right time in the right order to get the results you want in your life.
We have so many distractions these days that it's so easy to be swayed off course. So how do you know when you're using your time effectively and when you're not?
1. Get the Balance Right
It's all about balance. If you feel you're working too slowly, how can you speed up such that you're still fully present with the task at hand, you're minimising errors and you're in that alpha brainwave state (where you're fully absorbed in what you're doing)? If work is coming in at a faster pace than your working pace you know you need to reduce the time you're spending on tasks or increase your pace.
If you're rushing around in a state of unhealthy stress (yes there is healthy stress... it's called moderate pressure!) what do you need to do to slow down and bring a sense of calmness and balance back into your being?
If you're being drawn away from what you're doing by social media and time is just passing you by, what strategies and stops do you need to put in place to ensure that you minimise those distractions? It's all about finding that fine line between speed and pace, between stress and pressure, between distraction and taking a break.
How you view what you're engaged in at any point in time is key to how successfully you do what you do. It's about gaining that clarity in your mind. For example if you feel your pace is too slow or to fast on a particular day and you've got a long list of tasks to accomplish that day, get clear about why your pace is the way it is.
Look back at what you were doing yesterday. Did you have a full-on day yesterday, or was your day too easy? In which case should you have scheduled in a lighter day today or a more active one? How did you sleep last night? If you spent the night tossing and turning and hardly slept that might be a clue that maybe your body just needs rest today. If you slept soundly last night this is going to contribute to an extra boost of energy for you.
Look at what you've been eating over the last few days. If it's empty calories that give you the feeling of fullness but lack nourishment, this is going to drain your energy levels. If, however, you've been taking in food and drink packed with E numbers you may find yourself bouncing off the walls. All of these aspects are going to have an impact on the time you spend, so planning your days effectively taking account of your energy levels is crucial.
2. Understand How You Respond
Another indicator as to whether your life is working for you time wise is how well you're moving towards what you want in life. A measure of this is how you're responding at the end of each day to what you've achieved... or not. If you feel disappointed because once again you've not accomplished what you wanted to achieve, perhaps it's because once again you've unrealistically tried to fit too many tasks into one day.
By asking yourself certain questions about the activities you undertake will begin to give you an understanding of how well you're using your time. Do you feel your task is too big, too small, too boring? Maybe you're unclear on exactly what it is you need to do. Perhaps you lack clarity on how you're going to do what it is you want to do.
3. Prioritize Your Activities
Maybe what's needed is some time to clearly define your activity, why you're doing it and to work out a simple strategy that will at least get you moving. Sometimes when you take a few moments to take just these simple steps, your energy levels begin to stabilise because confusion, frustration and uncertainty begin to wane.
Taking some time to simply prioritize your tasks according to their level of importance, timing each one and deciding when you are going to tackle each is an amazingly freeing activity on a mental level that will begin to move you forward. Adopting this more practical approach will also help you to learn more about how you naturally work, and to work in accordance with this.
4. Get Clear on Your Outcomes
The clearer you can be about your desired achievements, the more constructively you'll find yourself using your time. How to do this is relatively simple:
- Get really clear on exactly what you want to achieve
- Map out your strategy for getting there
- Break your project down into prioritized and timed phases and tasks
- Get to work!
- Evaluate on an ongoing basis what's working and what's not
- Make the necessary adjustments along the way
- Stay open-minded to what success will look like
- Keep going until you get to where you want to go (or to the closest version of it)
- Rinse and repeat

The Only Way Out Of Judgement Is Through The Power Of Gratitude
Judgement And Gratitude Are Opposing Forces
Did you know that judgement impairs our ability to identify what is really taking place in a situation? We may not have the full details and are likely to judge something based on limited information. We tend to distance ourselves through our judgements and become disillusioned with what we find. For example, it is easier to judge another person than to know them on a deeper level. This is because it requires a commitment to invest ourselves and we might be disappointed if the other person does not reciprocate. Therefore, judgement keeps us safe because we transfer our feelings of fear, shame and guilt onto others to make ourselves feel better. This comes at a cost of alienating ourselves instead of building stronger connections.
The way out of judgement is through the power of gratitude, which helps us see things through a different lens. Gratitude opens the door to our hearts and helps us consider things from a different perspective. It softens us in places where we were rigid. A heart filled with gratitude is unlike a heart filled with judgement, fear and anger. In fact, the heart does not harbour these emotions as much as the mind does through its ego attachment. Consequently, judgement and gratitude are opposing forces. One is the realm of the ego and the other is expressed through authentic goodness and compassion. Have you experienced something similar in your own life? Perhaps you judged another person wrongly and realised later there was more to the person than meets the eye? It is common to react this way and psychologist say it is attributed to an evolutionary role within our brains that screens for negativity.
Be More Tolerant And Grateful Of Others
But how can we overcome our judgement to perceive things more clearly? Surely, judgement hinders our experience of life? The key to recognising our judgement lies in being mindful of our thoughts. I often tell coaching clients when they notice themselves judging, to stop and ask a simple question: "What am I not seeing in this situation?" This helps us notice where we are blinded by our bias and unable to see the truth. It is my experience that judgement occurs mainly in our interaction with people. We are unaware of other people's motives and agendas because we bring our own distorted thinking to the process. Most times, we prefer to be right than wrong, even if it means upholding erroneous thoughts.
This was evident with the disgraced seven time Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong who convinced himself and others he did not cheat. He went to great lengths to dismiss his use of illegal performance-enhancing substances. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, he said that his lies were so convincing they eventually become truth. This example shows the complexity of human beings where a lie can be believed with such conviction that it becomes our truth. But as you know, upholding a lie is harder than speaking the truth. In contrast, the power of gratitude allows us to shift our attention to the truth, even if it means our feelings will be hurt. Gratitude helps us become aware of opportunities, even if we have to look hard, there is always something to appreciate. Gratitude flips the switch from fear and judgement to compassion and understanding. It is the bridge whereupon friendships and tolerance is born.
To cross the bridge from judgement to gratitude requires openness and awareness. The openness to trust we don't completely understand what is taking place. The awareness that we are judging something to appease ourselves or minimise another's self-worth. Through an expanded awareness, we recognise our habituated thoughts patterns and are able to break the cycle. We move from the egoic need to judge something or someone and into our hearts where all possibilities exist. We learn to be more tolerant and grateful of others instead of believing in a fabricated lie. The more we understand something, the more tolerant we become of ourselves and others. Tolerance leads to forgiveness and empathy which are the seeds of soulful living.
With that in mind, I'd like you to consider a current situation in which you have judged something or someone unfairly. How could you see things differently and appreciate what is taking place behind the scenes? What action could you take to come from a place of gratitude and compassion instead of judgement and fear? Sometimes, the smallest action requires making eye contact with another person. Notice the difference in your body and how you feel when you move into your heart instead of your head? It is only when we let go of judgement that the power of gratitude opens the door to our heart and brings the awareness to see things exactly as they are.
